Puerto del Sol is an award-winning, transit-oriented affordable housing community for families. An integral part of the West Gateway development of downtown Long Beach, CA, the property is within walking distance to local medical and community services, shopping and schools as well as an area transit center and Metrolink light rail station. Puerto del Sol features a community center with onsite services tailored to residents and their families provided by Jamboree’s Community Impact Group.
Innovative design techniques such as a combination of courtyards and varying building levels and heights limit the appearance of density and encourage a sense of community among residents. Common areas such as a community center and playground are all located on the second floor and these common areas foster a livable atmosphere. The overall property design engages the streetscape and surrounding neighborhood.
Jamboree partnered with local government, investors, design partners and property management on Puerto del Sol. Jamboree leveraged a diverse nexus of public and private funds – particularly working in close partnership with the City of Long Beach – making Puerto del Sol a strategic, major step in reducing the City’s severe overcrowding. Puerto del Sol meets the extreme need for affordable housing in an area with high poverty rates and high real estate and housing prices. All partners are on board and deeply committed to maintaining the community’s affordability and quality design for the long-term.
